El 27 de septiembre 1988 el gobierno Chino, representado por el Premier, Li Peng, firmo con la gerencia de Daimler-Benz A.G. un contrato de transferencia de tecnología Mercedes-Benz para formar una propia producción de vehículos comerciales de primer nivel, para el ejército y mercado interno chino.
Baotou Bei Ben Heavy-Duty Truck Co Ltd. que produce bajo los más altos estándares de calidad camiones y componentes.
El primer propósito fue, abastecer el ejército Chino con vehículos todo terreno, por lo que se colocaron sus instalaciones original alemanas en la ciudad de aceros finos de Baotou en la provincia de la Central Mongolia, en la famosa fábrica de tanques, FIRMACO, parte de CNGC, el Grupo Industrial del Norte de China.
